I’m Really Chuffed…!

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

For the last 10 days, I’ve been following a 10 day cleanse programme. Now this is something new to me, I haven’t done one of these before, and never really felt like I needed to do one, however, recently, I’ve had the thought that maybe it was time to go through the process… So Sunday 24th July, I started..!

pasta saladNow naturally, I’m a huge pasta fan, I love chicken and I drink a bit of coffee, OK, I drink quite a bit of coffee! My water intake is ‘normal’ (not brilliant, but OK) and I know I could always eat more fruit.

So, on Sunday, I decided that was the day, I’d just returned from a week away in Scotland (not over indulged there either to be fair), then I’d been to a wedding on the Saturday (and driven), but Sunday was my start day. I kicked off the detox programme, with a total elimination of toxin based foods which included:

  • caffeine
  • alcohol
  • sugar
  • wheat
  • dairy
  • red meat

Other than these eliminated foods, I could eat what I wanted. Firstly I started my new found love for fruit smoothies in a morning, tried it before, but now… that’s the start to the day I’m looking for. I found that eating cereals in the morning left me bloated and after about 10mins from finishing it, totally wiped out, really lethargic and I could have quite easily had a 30min nap..! Now… wow, I’m pumping and ready for the day!

My smoothie is packed with banana, orange, strawberries, red grapes, blue berries, raspberries, a splash of apple juice and a dash of Zambroza… all I can say is “yum, yum”!

Snacks throughout the day would be more fruit, nuts, seeds or possibly carrot sticks/celery with a low fat hummus dip.

Lunches was from a wide selection of tasty salads or soups, eggs etc.

My evening meals was anything I fancied really, chicken, fish, stir fry, loads of mixed vegetablesBootcampers, potatoes etc. I even went out with my Boot Campers on our social evening for a Chinese meal last Friday, great fun. But I managed to eat well and as healthy as I could as I washed my meal down with a great tasting freshly made pear flavoured ice tea. This is us out at Sweet Mandarin in Manchester…

This morning I went to weigh myself after finishing yesterday the full 10 day cleanse, I have lost a total of 10lbs of pure fat tissue. Not only that, but I really do feel great after it. I am far, far less bloated, if bloated at all really. I’ve no real lethargic feelings and all in all, I feel far better and full of vitality.

Not to say I had my share of not feeling great at the start, for about 3.5 days, I had a headache (probably from the caffeine, or lack of it), and I did feel a little flu like symptoms hit me, but once that passed… then it’s all been good!

excusesSo, chuffed with the results..? YES I am..! AND… It has really helped me to set my body back to a default position now allowing me to focus properly on what I’m putting into it. I don’t think I have EVER eaten so well and clean, but I gotta say, I’m loving it!!

If you’re thinking of taking a cleanse, or wondering which supplements would be best suited to you, or even you want to know which particular body system is struggling and being over dominated by others, then a good place to start is the FREE Lifestyle Assessment, here you quickly answer a few statements or questions, and the analysis will report as to which of the body’s systems is struggling and could do with a little TLC..!

Why not give that free, no obligation assessment a go today?

The absolute fitness clients and Training Team had a cracking day out on Saturday..! We went Paintballing, and I think it’s safe to say all those that came did have a really good time.

Even those that were heavily sceptical about going Paintballing for a day out probably ended up loving it the most..!

We didn’t have a good or big turn out as we hoped for our very first main social event, but those that did come, certainly made up for the numbers. Every month from now on absolute fitness will be arranging some sort of day out/social event to join our Personal Training clients and Boot Camp Team members together for some fun. We spend so much time sweating and grunting and working hard during the months, that we thought it would be really nice that if at least once a month we could arrange a ‘let your hair down’ kind of day, and a chance for us to really meet the person we work out next to on a daily basis. It also gives you a chance to get to know your Trainers more too.

Every month will be a different kind of event, with June being paintballing, and July being more of a laid back, casual night out..!

absolute fitness Paintball Team

*Paintball Team- Claire W, Gary M, Mike B, Wayne, Richard M, Richard W, Gill W, Vics A, Sue A, Dan B

So in July we headed over to Whitefield for a full fun day of shooting each other! We had a mix of experienced paintballers and complete novices (who soon showed their game). We were kitted up with our camouflage clothing and head mask, and given our strict brief (which we heard a few times throughout the day, in some rather colourful language). Then we headed off for our first game.

Our team were split, and with the other 80 players all out for an enjoyable game too, we reached our mud bath, split to different ends and with the aim of ‘catching the opponents flag’ began shooting..! It was brilliant to see our first complete novice – Gill W heading out her team straight into the middle of the field, but also straight into the line of paint balls heading her way..!

I held my ground to start with, slowly firing off the paint, and a few targets hit, then headed out into the middle of the field, making steadyPaintball progress to suddenly find I had shot all of my 200 paintballs!! So, I returned to dead zone..!

When I got there, it was hilarious to see that two of team members – Claire W and Richard W were covered in mud, and had seemed to spend the majority of the time, before, during and after each and every game, falling on the arses. Hence the main bruises they have aren’t from paintballs, but from slipping on the hills in the mud (too much fun if you ask me)..!

Lunch was apparently a speciality for Paintball HQ – Chicken Curry..! And as Gary M highlighted, it was curry colour, tasted ‘like’ chicken, it had rice underneath, and it was at least hot..! To be fair, it was good enough for me to finish off Sue A’s portion too!! (I know, I know, I’m a Trainer – but that’s what we do as Trainers, we look after you by eating it so you don’t need to!!)

The games continued in the afternoon, and we had loads more fun, some more than others… especially when, on my way back to ‘deadzone’ with my hand raised to indicate I had been shot, and was ‘dead’ I was greeted with a “woo hoo… Richard..” two opposition team members – Claire W and Gill W waving at me on the top of a hill… So I waved back to be met with a short range paintball straight to the head..!! I think it indicated to me ‘Pay back Time..!!’

So… All in all, I think it was safe to say, we had a cracking time outside running around in the mud and trees, and it was a good way to get the absolute fitness Social Calender off to a start. Next month as mentioned will be more chilled out, but I’m sure will be as eventful, as we head into Town for a meal and a drinks night out… You up for it..? Details are HERE…

Until then…

I’ve Beaten Myself Up!

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

So after my relatively successful completion of last weekends Bupa Great Manchester 10km Run on Sunday, I thought this week I would start my new fitness regime.

Sunday was a great day, I understand there may have been around 38000 runners taking to the streets of Manchester to complete the increasingly popular north west based road race. Many thousands of these runners will have been doing it for charity, as was I… This year I decided to run on behalf of The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT), a charity which provide holidays for terminally ill, disadvantaged and disabled children across the North West.

You can get a feel of the great atmosphere at the start during the warm up here:

This is only one of the 5 waves of runners heading out on to the 10km track.

I completed this years run in 54:35min, which to be honest with you I am quite happy with considering my preparations (or lack of!!!), no where near my best, or norm, but good nevertheless.

This is a quick clip of the finish line, and the mass of happy faces as they cross the finish and complete their own personal challenge.

So after this accomplishment on Sunday, I decided I was going to mix things up with my training as of this week. I gave myself Monday off, with the intention on starting yesterday, but that plan was soon trashed after my only 1.5hr slot was filled with a client with a last minute booking…

So I reserved my own time slot in my diary today, and away I went… And OMG..! It was tough today…

I blitzed my chest and back, with a variety of exercises hitting every section of the upper body. These included a variety of press ups (normal, super wide, diamond, declines) and a variety of pull ups too to hit my back and shoulders. I used weights for a few exercises too, and the session was a complete beasting of my chest, back and arms..! But I totally loved it..!

This is me at the end of my workout, with day 1 under my belt..!

My plan is that over the next 30-60 days to transform my shape, excellerate my metabolism to be burning fat all day long, and blow torch any unwanted fat stores away as well as see major changes in my fitness, strength and let’s face it… my physique too! I’d like to look great this summer too you know..!

So keep a check of my progress as I will be updating regularly with news on how I’m getting on… It’s time to shred the unwanted fat, and get lean and strong and for no other particular reason other than, I just want to..!

KettleBells to Oslo

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

So Tuesday evening, I was training with one of my clients just before the Boot Camp session started, and I had a session planned around using the Kettle Bells. If you have never seen or heard of these before, they are simply a weighted ‘cannonball’ with handles attached.

They provide an awesome workout, boosting fitness levels to an all time high, whilst increasing the metabolism, improving strength, and hitting the cardio vascular component of your training too. They’re also a killer on the calorie burn out… so all iKettlebelln all, a great piece of kit to use.

With that, they are also quite good fun, and highly addictive, as it gives resistance training a new dimension (literally) – it allows you to work one side at a time, meaning you rely heavily on core strength, balance, co-ordination and stability. I think it makes resistance work far more enjoyable, as lifting weights and especially being sat on machines, just doesn’t really float my boat! It just makes people look like they’re doing soimething half the time!

So, on Tuesday evening, after a full body warm up, and dynamic mobilisation – I took my client through an exercise pattern muscle memory routine – simply teaching her six basic KettleBell exercises. After this, I popped a new disc in the CD player, which I have now started using for some of the boot camp sessions, and away we went. The music is brilliantly automated in the timing sequence, so I was able to just concentrate on her technique, coaching and motivating her to stay on track. By the fourth round, she so wanted to stop…

The final routine was 45 seconds work, 15 seconds rest between exercises for 4 Total Rounds, the exercise list consisted of:

  • Two Handed KettleBell Swing
  • Right Hand Clean
  • Alternating Swing
  • Left Hand Clean
  • Goblet Squat & Press
  • Russian Twists

After each round of 6 exercises, there was a short recovery, before the next round started. As I say, after round 3 she was really starting to feel ‘the burn’, and the training effect took place… I thought it was a cracking session, and all credit to her for smashing her training out the park…

A Great 2 Day Course in Plymouth – 1 to Go…

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Well, it was a nice long drive down to Plymouth on Monday morning. I woke up at 4am and was refreshed and ready to set off on my 4hr drive to Plymouth City Centre by 4.30am. A 2 day training course awaited me… I have delivered a Youth Fitness Training course in Adapting Gym Sessions for Adolescents to 7 adult gym instructors wanting to further their skills in working with children in a fitness environment.

I arrived at 9.10am, set up my computer, and away we went – and we didn’t stop all day! Well, I did have to get them ready for an exam today on day 2. So far, I have a 100% pass rate with all my training delegates from my training courses over the last 5yrs, and I don’t think this course and this group will let my pass rate falter. They all seem to have their heads switched on.

So, day 2 is over, all gone well (I think), now we can look forward to a great extra day tomorrow with a brilliant SHOKK Kombat workshop. A full practical day delivering mixed martial arts in a group exercise environment, I can’t wait, it should be good.

If you would like to start working as a youth fitness instructor, contact SHOKK Ltd now for a full list of training options.

Until next time… Work Hard – Train Harder

Busy Next Few Days…

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Well, the next few days should go quickly with a busy schedule ahead…

Tomorrow, I have an early start with the absolute FitnessCamp at 6.15am at the absolute fitness Training Studio, followed by a few hours drive up towards Sunderland for some fun games with the SHOKK Dance Mat training. I am delivering a nice short training session on how to use our Multi-Player Dance Mat system. It’s a great chance to have a few hours playing around really, I don’t think you can call it work, can you?

After finishing that around 1pm, I shall have to shoot back to the studio for a 1:1 Personal Training session before heading home for the night.

Thursday and Friday then brings a couple of challenging, but interesting days delivering a two day SHOKK Core Module – Adapting Gym for Adolescents training course in Wales. That will nicely lead me into the weekend, to enjoy with my family, I’ve not had a full weekend with them for a while, so that should be good!

Bring on the next few days…

Don’t Just Take Part – Do Something Incredible!

Friday 15th January 2010

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

On Friday afternoon, I was spending a few hours working with a colleague SHOKK Trainer in Middleton, Lancashire where we were demonstrating to a number of SHOKK Youth Instructors the most ideal and effective way to induct and carry out fitness training sessions for children that they work with.

This involved demonstarting a few fun games and session plans that are safe and effective when gym inducting children within a youth gym setting. We then went on to have loads of fun demonstrating enjoyable training sessions that keep children coming back for more. These included interactive dance mat sessions incorporating sports specific skills, and using the full range of SHOKK gym equipment.

What a better way to finish the day off, than with a night in Wilmslow at a friends 30th Birthday? Tomorrow, London and a SHOKK Youth Fitness Foundation course…
